Organizers say the first month of the new Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Care Centre at 1400 Windsor Ave. has yielded positive results in the community.
A joint initiative involving the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Windsor-Essex County Branch and Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, the centre has had 64 unique visitors since launching on April 16.

The centre’s team of social workers, addiction counsellors, psychiatrists, physicians, and nurses was set up in order to alleviate pressure on acute care emergency departments by offering rapid care to those suffering from mental health or addiction issues.
Claudia den Boer, CEO of the CMHA’s Windsor-Essex County Branch, said more than half of the centre’s clients have said they would have sought help at a hospital if it weren’t for the centre providing services.
Boer said the initiative has been particularly appropriate due to “heightened anxiety and fear” in the community as it deals with the pandemic.
