New cases of COVID-19 announced in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday saw the biggest jump in numbers in more than a month.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit announced 23 new cases on Saturday, the highest total for the area since 24 cases were reported on April 21. It’s the second time in three days the area has recorded more than 20 cases and brought the area total to 866. However, there were no new deaths reported for the area, which has seen 63 lives taken by the pandemic.

On another positive note, outbreaks in health and long-term care facilities are now down to four centres at Extendicare Tecumseh (St. Alphonse), Regency Park in Windsor, Sun Parlour Home in Leamington and Heron Terrace in Windsor. That is down from eight locations on Friday and 13 on Thursday.
Locally, a total of 478 people have recovered from the virus, which is up from 473 on Friday. Tests completed remain unchanged at 15,019, but pending results are down to 929 from 1,006 on Friday.
